What You Will Learn in This Film Photography Workshop

My analog photography workshop in Rome combines technical foundations with practical street experience. It is suitable for beginners and for digital photographers who want to reconnect with a slower process.

You will learn:

  • Understanding ISO, film sensitivity, grain, and the beauty of imperfection.

  • How aperture and shutter speed work together. How to read light without relying on a screen.

  • Film photography teaches patience. You will learn to trust your eye and your intuition.

  • People, roman walls, narrow streets, morning or late afternoon shadows. We work with the city as it is.

  • How to position yourself. How to observe without interrupting a scene.

What a Typical 5 Hour Analog Photography Workshop Looks Like

A typical analog photography workshop in Rome unfolds slowly and intentionally. The experience is structured, but never rushed. Over five hours, we move from understanding the fundamentals of 35mm film to applying them in real streets, real light, and real situations.

Hour 1 — Introduction and Foundations
We meet at a central location in Rome. I introduce you to the Canon AE-1 and explain how 35mm film works. You learn the basics of aperture, shutter speed, ISO, focusing, and how to read light. Before we start walking, you feel comfortable holding and operating the camera.

Hour 2 — First Walk and Guided Practice
We begin our photo walk through carefully selected streets. I guide you through your first frames, helping you adjust exposure and think about composition. This is where theory becomes practice.

Hour 3 — Deeper Observation
As you gain confidence, you start shooting more independently. We focus on rhythm, anticipation, and positioning. You learn how to observe without interrupting the scene. Rome becomes both classroom and subject.

Hour 4 — Refinement and Creative Direction
Now we refine. I give individual feedback in real time. We discuss framing choices, light direction, and storytelling through a single frame. You start to develop intention behind each shot.

Hour 5 — Reflection and Closing Conversation
We pause at a quiet spot to reflect on the experience. We review what you learned, discuss common mistakes, and talk about film development and next steps. You leave not only with exposed film, but with a deeper understanding of how to see.

This 5 hour film photography workshop in Rome is designed to balance technical clarity with creative freedom. It is immersive, practical, and personal.
